Harvest Initiative Receives Funding From Department of the Treasury- CDFI Fund
July 2, 2009
The United States Department of the Treasury- CDFI Fund announced that The Harvest Initiative will receive funding to support development of a Native CDFI for the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation.
"These Native CDFIs are transforming their communities by helping to create businesses and needed jobs, provide affordable housing and build vital community facilities in places that desperately need them. They are providing personal financial education and developing business skills in communities that have been excluded from our nation's economic mainstream and they are helping to change the lives of the people they serve," said CDFI Fund Director Donna J. Gambrell.
The Harvest Initiative announced in May that Hunkpati Investments, Inc. had been formed and is working toward becoming a Treasury-certified Native CDFI. The funding from the CDFI Fund will enable The Harvest Initiative to provide continued technical assistance to Hunkpati Investments and create access to development resources.

The Harvest Initiative was founded in 2008 to invest locally in native grown ideas and support socially responsible business development to move Crow Creek Sioux Reservation toward a commercially viable, self-sustaining economic environment.
