Laundromat Opens in Fort Thompson
Nov. 19, 2008
Members of the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe welcomed the grand opening of a new business in Fort Thompson on November 11th, 2008. The Laundromat provides a service which has not been available on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation for some time. Myra Isburg opened the doors to Shelby’s Laundromat, LLC in the vacant building that once housed her family’s successful convenience store which has since moved across the parking lot to a newer, larger facility. The Isburg family has operated Shelby’s convenience store in Fort Thompson for over two decades. Myra is relying on her considerable business experience and hopes the convenience store’s success will transfer to her new venture. Myra Isburg stated, “I am excited for this new business in Fort Thompson, but I am even happier to start a business that will provide a needed service to the community.”
Ms. Isburg credits many people for their help along the way and one group in particular is a new economic development entity on the Crow Creek Sioux Reservation. The Harvest Initiative, Inc is focused on creating local economic activity in Fort Thompson and among the other communities at Crow Creek. The group is excited to provide support to business owners like Myra. It is locally-developed businesses like Shelby’s that the group is geared to support, and hopes that this is only the beginning of business growth activities at Crow Creek. Jason Yates, the Director of Operations for the Harvest Initiative, Inc says, “working with Myra to reach her goal of opening Shelby’s Laundromat was an easy process. We are simply glad that we could assist her through our business formation services. She is doing exactly the type of economic activity our organization is trying to promote here at Crow Creek.”
The business is located just east of the Lode Star Hotel and hours will be daily from 8 am to 10 pm at night.
